On Tuesday June 4th, the Community Foundation of Halton North (CFHN) hosted Showcase 2024 at Piper’s Heath Golf Club. Showcase is a demonstration and celebration of the talented and hard-working charities that are helped to prosper due to generous contributions from legacy donors of the Community Foundation of Halton North.
The event was ushered in by the steel pan drum band from the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton. Mike Cluett and Clark Somerville from Local Matters on YourTV began the evening with a walkabout talking to attendees, which included many guests including board members, donors, charities and elected officials.
CFHN Fund Development Chair Darryl Demille and CFHN Grants Chair Joy Anderson took to the podium to continue the conversation about philanthropy. The Community Foundation of Halton North is different and gaining popularity. Why? It’s different because its donors and local volunteers direct long-term funds annually into the community, providing care-free philanthropy flexible enough for all charities. It’s For Good For Ever”
Some 2023 grant recipients shared their stories on how last year’s grant made a difference in their organization and the community.
Grantees were announced by guests opening sealed envelopes on the table and revealing the 2024 recipients. “We are pleased to announce the 2024 grant recipients and congratulate them for their tremendous work in the community of Halton North,” said Joy Anderson, Chair of the Grants Committee. “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our fund holders and donors for their contributions to make this possible. ”

Both Darryl and Joy discussed the importance of endowments and how this can be a tremendous opportunity for charities. “CFHN has designated funds, where each and every year, grants go back to the charity, forever. It is a great way for a donor or a charity itself to guarantee a steady stream of income year after year. A designated fund means the charity knows and can depend on an annual revenue stream from our Foundation.”
Demille also told the crowd to mark their calendar for CFHN’s next big event, CFHN 2024 Webathon Giving Challenge taking place on Saturday September 28. He also announced CFHN inaugural event “The Infinity Ball” being held on January 16, 2025. This gala event will support the Townsend Smith Foundation and will build an endowment for this very important cause. Every year, the Infinity Ball will celebrate another important charity in the Halton North community.
“The Community Foundation of Halton North’s vision is to grant back into the communities which make up North Halton and I am thrilled that the Foundation is now in its 10th year of fulfilling its mission,” stated Brad Clements, Chair of CFHN.
To wrap up the event, Darryl thanked our sponors, Piper’s Heath Golf Club, AVPlus and Towne Square, Main Martin and Mill Streets. Sponsors are so important and an integral part of all events.
